Birkie Sunday ski events are for children and their parents. The Canadian Birkebeiner Society is excited to partner with Silver Skate Festival in Hawrelak Park to host the Barnebirkie classic-style cross country ski events. These winter fun activities are where Birkie dreams begin!

Free ski equipment rental

Free cross country ski equipment rentals, from grade 3 to adult sizes, will be available on site on a first-come, first-served basis. You must have picture identification such as a  driver’s license to borrow equipment.

Online Registration Deadline

Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Noon.
Registration will be available at the Nordic Fair and on-site at the event.



Registration package pickup available at the Friday Nordic Fair and on site at Hawrelak at 11 a.m.
Parent and Spectator Etiquette: Adults accompanying Barnebirkie skiers on course must be on skis to retain the integrity of the course.
No pets please.
Clothing Footwear: Dress for the weather
Parking:  Free on-site parking available.

Age Limits

The Canadian Birkebeiner Society follows Cross Country Canada’s suggested age limits and have set the age limits below as part of our effort to ensure everyone stays safe.

  • 500 m, 1.5 km, 3 km: Any age; but, children 2 – 7 years of age must be registered with and accompanied by an adult guardian
