The Skiff the Birkie Needed

Over Tuesday night a light snow has come down in Sherwood Park – I’m sure it will cover the trails at the Cooking Lake Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area where the 18th Birkebeiner Cross Country ski event will soon be held.

This should be enough to cover the hard packed tracks set early in the month and make skiing safe and enjoyable.

Our meteorologist friend told us there was a good chance of flurries by today and more to come so we have held off  renovating. That means we tear up what we have and start again – grind up all the hard crust into small particles, pack it, and track it. The “Pistin Bully” can do this but now we can wait a while and enjoy the wonderful tracks we have.

The Canadian Birkebeiner event will have great tracks by February 14th.. Check www.canadianbirkie.com or phone 430-7153 for information on the Festival.
