13 km Mini Birkie - Start time 1:30 p.m.

A loop course for those who want a taste of the Birkebeiner. No age categories. Skiers in this event vary in age and ability, but they all seek the thrill of crossing the finish line. This event starts and finishes at the Waskehegan Staging Area.

Getting to the Start Area – 13 km Mini Birkie
There is no parking at the Start Area at Waskehegan Stadium.
Drive to Uncas Parking Lot and park. Free shuttle bus service for 13 km Mini Birkie skiers and spectators runs from the Uncas parking lot to the start area continuously from 8 am to 5 pm.


Your Itinerary - 13 km Mini Birkie

11:00 a.m.    Leave Edmonton to drive to Uncas Parking Lot
11:30 a.m.    Arrive Uncas parking lot – follow directions of parking marshals
12:00 p.m.    Bus to Start /Finish area
12:15 p.m.    Arrive Waskehegan Stadium and
Wax skis or have a coffee in the Festival Tent

12:30 p.m.    Pick up bib in picnic shelter if you missed getting it Friday 

12:50 p.m.    Drop off tagged clothing bag at Clothing tent in Stadium
1:00 p.m.     Walk to start line on Field – takes up to 10 minutes to walk
1:10 p.m.     Drop off tagged clothing bag at Clothing tent if you forgot to leave it in the stadium
                   Test wax and warm up
1:15 p.m.     Place yourself based on your estimated skiing time (self-seeding – ski with folks of similar ability) 1:25 p.m.     Official Program at Start Line

Getting to the Start Line – 13 km Mini Birkie
Start area is located at the Waskehegan Stadium (also the finish for all races).  Shuttle bus lets you off in the Stadium. Access to the start of the 13k Mini Birkie is walking through the Stadium behind the picnic shelter to the "Short Starts" in big field.


What's the route of the 13 km Mini Birkie?
The Mini Birkie is a Loop course which starts from the field east of the Waskehegan Stadium out to Meadow Shelter and back. Course is rolling hills and winding trails beside many beaver ponds.


The finish line for all races is at Waskehegan Staging Area, located just east of Sherwood Park.

 

How do I get back to my vehicle after I finish the 13 km Mini Birkie?

A free shuttle bus service for finishers runs from the finish line (in the Stadium) back to vehicles in the Uncas Parking Lot. Runs continuously all day until 5 pm.

Spectators or family wanting to pick up finishers
There is no parking directly at Waskehegan Staging Area. Spectators for finish of events must park at the Uncas Parking Lot, and take a free shuttle bus to and from the finish line.
